RF Measurement becomes one of my favorite topics since the first laboratory of the class: ECE 353/453 Radio Communication Circuit. I enjoy working in this area because I can learn how the components actually work in hardware level.

In summer of 2003, I worked for Prof. Steven Franke from University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign as Individual Project Study. My task was to find out a reliable circuit model to describe different types of passive components that are frequently used in RF circuit.

Radio Frequency Characteristics of Passive Components

My experiments focus on the behaviors of components from 1MHz to 500MHz. Most sample components models give pretty good agreement with their measured value.

Furthermore, I made several comparasion on the characteritics of components with different material, voltage, breaking power. Also, I gave a brief discussion on the potential error of the disagreement including the error from calibration.
