Hi, I am Derrick. Here is a bit about myself:
Home Laboratory
I was borned to be an engineer. I like to improve the world. Currently, I am done with my degree and I am free to do anything! So, I spend most of my time on investigating new technologies and developing new things that I did not have time to do that while I was in school. I have several on-going projects now including Automatic Home Control, Home Security, Photo Album and Knowledge Sharing.Photography
I like photography because it is a great way to record our memory. There are many things repeat everyday but we always ignore and neglect them. I go traveling at least once a year. Last year, I drove to visit my grandmother and aunt in Albany of New York. Although it was a two-day drive (900+ miles), I enjoyed the trip very much. It is amazing to see how the tree changes on the road.So far, I have visited 27 different states in the United States. Here is the map of the places I have visited so far:
Outdoor
My wife and I love outdoor activities very much and we wish we can live in the middle of the wood or an island in the middle of the lake in the future. Usually in the beginning of the summer, we go hiking or camping once a week. When we lived in Champaign, our favorite spots including Shawnee, Turkey Run and Shades. After we've moved to Wisconsin, Trout Lake becomes our favorite spot.Language
I like to learn new language. When I was in graduate school, I learnt German because couple of my friends spoke this language. Although it was a short course, it gave me a pretty good picture of German and its culture. If I visit Europe, I probably will make German(or Switzerland) as my first stop.Music
I like the european music especially Irish, German and Swedish. My favorite artists include The Corrs, Sophie Zelmani, Jazzamor and Mulo Francel & Evelyn Huber.The Corrs: I like most of their songs especially the Irish folks. Their song is very comfortable and make me feeling very energetic. My favorite includes Haste to Wedding, I know my love, Buachaill ón Éirne and Borrow Heaven.
Sophie Zelmani: Most songs involves using musical instruments. The whole idea is the support the vocal. However, I got a different feeling with Sophie's music. While I was listening her song, I feel that she is talking with the piano and the guitar. In the other words, both of them are supporting each other and they are equally weighted. This is very interesting and different. My favorite includes Memory loves you and Travelling.
Jazzamor: Her voice always brings me to dream for a lazy afternoon, i.e., do nothing but sleep. My favorites are Je T'Aime, Sunday and Childhood Dreams .
Mulo Francel & Evelyn Huber: Mulo plays saxophone and Evelyn plays harp. It is a very interesting combination and they give a surprisingly good chemical reaction. My favorite one is Cäsar.
Webdesign
I like doing webdesign and developing web applications a lot! In fact, I think web is a standard and it is very easy to develop an application that everybody can use, no matter which platforms they are using.
